Tried It

I Used CeraVe Foaming Cleanser for Two Weeks

I Used CeraVe Foaming Cleanser for Two Weeks
Honest two-week test of the drugstore CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. Real notes from my sink on texture, results, and whether it is worth keeping in the rotation.

Why I Picked This One First

After the Target disaster where I turned my face red with a random salicylic acid wash, I wanted something boring and reliable. CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser kept showing up in every “starter kit for guys” list, it was under fifteen dollars, and it was sitting on the shelf at the same Target where I had previously made bad decisions.

So I bought it with my own money, brought it home, and committed to using it morning and night for a full two weeks. No switching. No adding extra products. Just this one cleanser and the rest of my basic routine.

This is what actually happened.

The First Few Days

Day one felt almost too gentle. The foam is light, not the thick lather you get from some “men’s” washes that feel like they are trying to prove something. It rinses clean without that tight, squeaky feeling I used to get from regular bar soap.

My face did not sting. That alone was an improvement over the previous experiment.

By day three I noticed the biggest change was what was missing: no dryness around my nose and cheeks after washing. In the past I would wash, feel tight, then slap on moisturizer like I was putting out a fire. With this one the tightness never really showed up.

Week One Notes

I kept it simple. Morning and night, same amount—about a nickel-sized dollop. Worked it in for twenty seconds, rinsed with lukewarm water, patted dry with a regular towel.

Skin felt consistently clean but not stripped. No sudden breakouts. No redness. The only minor complaint was that the foam disappears pretty fast, so if you are used to a big lather you might keep reaching for more. I stopped doing that after a couple of days and just used less.

By the end of the first week I had already decided it was better than anything else I had tried in the previous year. That is a low bar, but still.

Week Two and the Real Test

The second week is where most products either prove themselves or quietly fail. I kept the same routine. No special diet, no extra sleep, just regular life—work, coaching, the usual dry indoor air from the AC.

My face stayed calm. The dry patches that used to appear by mid-afternoon never really returned. When I looked in the rearview mirror on the way home, the “tired” look was still there (this cleanser is not magic), but the surface of my skin looked less rough and less dull.

I also paid attention to how it played with the rest of the routine. It did not leave any weird film that made the moisturizer slide around. It did not clog anything. It just did its job and got out of the way.

What I Liked

  • Price. Under fifteen dollars for a bottle that lasts a long time.

  • Availability. Every Target, Walmart, and pharmacy seems to carry it.

  • No fragrance. It smells like almost nothing, which is exactly what I want at 6:30 in the morning.

  • Consistent results. No good days and bad days. Just steady, uneventful cleaning.

What I Did Not Love

The foam is on the lighter side. If you are someone who enjoys a big, thick lather for the sensory experience, this will feel underwhelming. I got over that quickly because the results were better, but it is worth knowing.

Also, the pump can be a little finicky if you store the bottle on its side or if it gets low. Not a deal-breaker, just a small annoyance.

The Verdict After Fourteen Days

Buy it.

This is the cleanser I have repurchased multiple times since the first bottle. It is not exciting. It does not claim to do ten different things. It just cleans your face without creating new problems, and that is rarer than it should be.

If you are a guy who has been using regular soap or body wash on your face and wondering why it feels tight afterward, switch to this for two weeks and see the difference. If you already have a cleanser you like that does not leave your skin dry, you can skip it. But for most beginners, this is a very safe first purchase.

Real talk, from the sink: I went looking for something that would not punish me for trying, and this delivered. It is still on my sink today.

Who This Is Best For

Guys with normal to slightly dry or combination skin who want a no-drama daily cleanser. If your skin is very oily or you are dealing with active breakouts, you might want something with a bit more punch, but for the average face that just needs to be clean without the tight feeling, this works.

I am not a dermatologist. I am just a guy who tested it the same way I test packaging suppliers—consistently, with notes, and with my own money on the line. This one passed.
